Criticising Jais for confusing a woman’s aurat with an unlocked house is a sign of an “ignorant racist” according to Pembela.

Following DAP Chong Eng’s statement criticising Jais’s Friday sermon connecting a woman’s aurat (modesty) and rape, Muslim NGO Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Pembela Islam (Pembela) Chairman Mohamed Hafiz bin Mohamed Nordin (pic) has responded, reportedly labeling her as a racist.

“Pembela regrets the attitude of prejudice and provocations by a group of DAP leaders who are becoming more and more insulting to the religion of Islam,” he said in a statement made yesterday.

The DAP Wanita Chief had criticised Jais for a Friday sermon which urged women to cover up their ‘aurat’ (modesty), and that this would prevent rape. She said that the sermon smacked of victim blaming.

“What does Chong Eng know about aurat and its link to adultery and rape?” he asked.

Chong Eng had quoted studies on the psychology of rapists, saying that it was more of an issue of power play between the perpetrator and victim, rather than a case of the woman not “covering up”.

However, Pembela says that the statement by Chong Eng was a an act of provocation from a “generation that was given Malaysian citizenship”.

Hafiz also questioned if Chong Eng had ever heard a ‘Khutbah’ (sermon) before, asking if it was right for Muslims to do the same thing with Chong Eng’s religion. The sermon is available for download at e-masjid.jais.gov.my for public reading.

Apart from congratulating the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for calling her in to investigate the matter, he urged the Atttorney-General to prosecute Chong under the Section 298 Penal Code for her “big mouth”.

Chong, the DAP Wanita Chief, has maintained that her statement was made in defence of women’s rights and was not meant to insult the religious authorities.-The Rocket
