Through the Golden Age Friendly Program (SMUE) program, at least 20,999 senior citizens have already benefitted from the state government’s assistance. This amount covers a provision of RM 49 million by the state government since its inception in 2008 to April this year.
This program is part of the first phase under the People Centric Selangor Economy (MES) program. Selangor Menteri Besar’s political secretary Faekah Husin says that this is one of the Selangor PR state government’s initiatives to care for and appreciate the senior citizens in this state.
“It is a bereavement charity scheme meant to appreciate the senior citizens regardless of their sex, race, religious background, economic status or social standings. Through this program, all heirs of senior citizens and handicapped people who are registered for the program will receive RM 2500 to cover their burial arrangements,” she said.
“As many as 20,999 Selangor citizens have benefitted under this program since its launching in 2008 to April 2011. In 2010, the state government has provided RM 21 million for 8763 people and up to April this year, an amount of RM 7.1 million has been provided for 3156 senior citizens.” –The Rocket
