Perak DAP reveals PR would form state government, says Malay support overwhelming

IPOH, 15 Apr — Perak DAP Secretary, Nga Kor Ming revealed that the DAP and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) would march forward and form the state government, defeating the Barisan Nasional (BN) come May 5 elections by securing at least 36 to 40 out of 59 state assembly seats.

Nga said, he obtained the information through “several sources of intelligence”, and “internal tips” also suggested that a potentially huge PR win in Perak could be derived from an increasing level of understanding among the Malay community towards the DAP cause.

“They [the Malays in Perak] are supporting, but they are not showing it physically,” he said, after a mega ceramah at Taman Canning here, on 14 April.

According to Nga, the Malay acceptance towards the struggles of the DAP can also be measured based on the overwhelming support from the Malays during the friendly sessions held by the party.

“Before, only 500 people would attend our ceramah. Now, it can reach to 5,000 people. Lots of Malays are attending, too.

“Even I am shocked by the good response sometimes, not just in Pantai Remis and Taiping but in our programmes in other places as well,” he added.

Nga, also the incumbent Member of Parliament for Taiping, said that while BN, particularly UMNO frequently spew the seeds of hatred among the Malays towards the DAP and PR using all sorts of racially-charged slanders, the community now understands that the real issue is not about race.

“The Malays, especially those in rural areas feel offended and angry when they come to know about the NFC cow scandal involving UMNO Wanita Chief, Shahrizat Jalil,” he said.

Winning 31 seats compared to BN’s 28 in the 2008 elections, Pakatan Rakyat’s governance in Perak was short-lived, seeing three state assemblypersons defecting to become independents, paving the way for an unconstitutional power seizure in February 2009. — The Rocket
