Pakatan Rakyat should not entertain the idea of newly sacked PKR MB Khalid Ibrahim jumping ship to PAS or DAP in the midst of the Selangor MB crisis, said Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang in a statement today.
“It is most repugnant and obnoxious for anyone to try to fish in the troubled waters of the PR Selangor MB crisis by entertaining the proposition that Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim join PAS or DAP so that PAS or DAP can lay a claim to the post of Selangor Menteri Besar, even with Khalid continuing as Selangor Menteri Besar,” calling it dishonourable and unprincipled for any party to reduce the crisis into a game of numbers.
The already tainted image of Selangor Pakatan Rakyat would completely lose public credibility in Selangor if any leaders would even consider such a proposition, he explained.
“I am most gratified that all the three Pakatan Rakyat component parties of PAS, PKR and DAP have reaffirmed their commitment to Pakatan Rakyat after the expulsion of Khalid from PKR,” added Kit Siang.
He added that none of the Pakatan Rakyat leaders should make statements that could be used by the enemies of Pakatan Rakyat to destroy the alternative political coalition which won 52 per cent of the popular vote in the 13 General Elections in May last year winning three state governments of Kelantan, Penang and Selangor, 89 Parliamentary seats and 229 State Assembly seats in 12 states; not including Sarawak.
The recent uproar following PAS’s leaked WhatsApp message revealing the suggestion that PAS unite with UMNO in Selangor with Khalid Ibrahim on their side, was unsettling for many DAP and PKR leaders who expressed that such a scenario should not have even been considered by the Islamic party. The “numbers game” that was played out in the message was the plan for PAS to form a unity government with UMNO, with the addition of an unknown state assembly man from PKR, and TSKI (Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim). This would form a simple majority that would relinquish Pakatan Rakyat from Selangor.
“Whether PR can survive and resolve the Selangor MB crisis in the shortest possible time will depend on the political integrity and sense of honour of PR leaders to stay true and loyal to the original principles and aspirations in the formation of Pakatan Rakyat; to uphold the rights and interests of all Malaysians, regardless of religion or race, as enshrined in the Constitution,” Lim Kit Siang said Pakatan Rakyat is faced with its worst crisis since its formation after the 12 General Elections in April 2008. -TheRocket
