As Malaysians struggle economically due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, DAP representatives are still trying to help in whatever way they can. Many families, particularly those from the B40 community who are facing financial difficulties after losing their source of income have felt utterly abandoned by the Perikatan Nasional government.
These food initiatives started by DAP will can be accessed by anyone in need, regardless of race or religion. Despite lack of funding, DAP is doing everything in their power to lend a helping hand to the rakyat through these extremely difficult times.
Soup Kitchens
Ipoh Barat Soup Kitchen
MP for Ipoh Barat, Kula Segaran is currently running a soup kitchen at the Pusat Perkhidmatan Parlimen Ipoh Barat in Buntong which offers warm meals on Fridays and Saturdays each week for the underprivileged.
The programme which started in September last year has been extremely popular with many eagerly waiting for their meals the moment the soup kitchen starts operating. Each pack contains rice with chicken, with a side dish of veggies and fruits.
Even though the service centre is only able to run this programme twice a week, Saudara Kula hopes he will be able to expand it to cover more days per week should the service center get more funding.
Those interested in donating can do so to the Persatuan Sahabat Cinta Alam Kinta Perak at Ambank, Silibin branch (Account number: 8881034009118).
DAPUR KINRARA
This soup kitchen is a project initiated by Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han’s office. The programme which runs on Sundays from 12pm to 2pm serves warm fresh vegetarian food to anyone in need of a meal.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own containers to pack the food in an effort to reduce usage of single-use plastic.
The best part about Dapur Kinrara? It’s open to everyone regardless of your location, even those outside Saudara Ng Sze Han’s constituency may get a free meal.
The programme is run by volunteers and most of the ingredients have been donated. Dapur Kinrara is also supported by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).
“The city council has approved a hydroponic project to grow vegetables behind the community hall, the vegetables grown from this project will then be used for Dapur Kinrara.” said MBSJ councillor Ng Seow Chen.
Dapur Kinrara coordinator Low Chee Wah is grateful for the assistance of the more than 100 volunteers who are helping the programme’s success.

DAP Sarawak
Earlier this month, the Sarawak state government announced that a special allocation of RM250,000 will be given to each constituency for those B40 families in need of food aid. However, the Opposition ADUNs were deprived of such allocations.
To continue servicing the constituents who are in dire need of help, all DAP elected representatives in the state have donated 20% of their allowances to help with funding. DAP members are also helping to help get food iterms for the under privileged.
Thus far, DAP elected reps in Sarawak have distributed close to 500 food packs worth approximately RM50 per pack consisting of rice, biscuits, instant noodles, bee hoon, sugar, canned sardine, canned corn, and eggs.
“Our financial resources are very limited and we appeal for assistance. Anyone interested in donating any food items can contact our DAP Sarawak office at 082-611 624″
DAP KEPONG
Ever since the pandemic hit, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has been very consistent in giving food aid to the underprivileged in his community amongst other types of aid.
Many of those who have reached out to him have been ignored by the PN government and are out of options.
Starting January of 2021, Saudara Lim Lip Eng like other opposition representatives have lost their allocation. Still it did not deter them from carrying out community activities as much as possible. Those would would like to donate to DAP Kepong branch, can use the details shared in the below poster.
Be sure to follow your local and state DAP reps on social media to check out their latest community work.
