DAPSY wont be inviting PAS Youth to any of its campaigns, nor will it attend any PAS events on route to the Permatang Pauh by-elections.

The youth wing of the DAP will not be inviting PAS Youth for any campaign it organises for the Permatang Pauh by-elections.

Maintaining its severed ties with PAS Youth over the issue of Hudud, DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) during a meeting in Bukit Mertajam last night decided that it will continue to freeze ties with PAS Youth Penang while campaigning for the May 7 by-elections.

In a statement today, DAPSY Penang Chief Ng Wei Aik said the party  would respect the decision of PKR Youth Penang (AMKPP) if it wants to involves PAS Youth in the campaign activities  – but maintained that DAPSY will not backtrack on its decision.

“In other words, the question of retracting our previous decision or unfreezing our relationship with the PAS Youth Penang is not arisen. We will not directly engaging the PAS Youth Penang for the Permatang Pauh campaign in any way,” Ng said, nevertheless pledging DAPSY’s support for the PKR candidate.

He added that DAPSY will work with PKR and Pakatan Rakyat in the election campaign which will be kicked off from 25 April to 7 May.

DAPSY also expressed its commitment to the campaign, citing the abolishment of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as the “utmost important electoral battle for all Malaysians”.

“We will not snub any event organised by the PKR, no matter it is with or without the PAS’ involvement. However, we will not engage the PAS Youth Penang directly or invite PAS Youth leaders for any event we are going to organise,” Ng said.

He said that DAPSY will mobilise all its young leaders from all divisions in the state to intensively campaign for the by-elections.

“Let us not forget, to ensure that we can succeed in this campaign and eventually pile up the pressure for the GST to be abolished, “Solidarity against BN!” must always come first,” he added.

Despite the stand taken by DAPSY, Ng said that the issues between DAP and PAS should not be exploited by “certain parties” during the campaign.

The Permatang Pauh seat was left vacant by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who is serving a five year jail sentence in Sungai Buloh prison for sodomy.

PKR Secretary General Rafizi Ramli says the party will announce its candidate on 24 April, a day before nominations day.
