This morning, we were on the ground at Stutong Market to meet and greet members of public as well as to distribute face mask that was purchased using our own funds, to the food hawkers at the market to continue to raise awareness on the importance of following all the set SOPs and precautions to stop the spread of Covid-19.
We may not have much, but we try to do as much as we can, but most importantly is the need to raise awareness for us all to continue to take all necessary precautions.
Even though yesterday we received the good news that Sarawak was finally declared a green zone as there was no local transmission case for the past 14 days, it does not mean that we all do not need to continue taking all the necessary precautions especially since the virus may still be in the community.
The DG of Health mentioned that almost 70% of all Covid-19 patients are asymptomatic and even the imported case in Sarawak yesterday in Sibu, was an asymptomatic case. So there may be more asymptomatic carriers that do not know they are infected that are still in the community.
That is why the “good news” shouldn’t give us a false sense of security causing us to lax in taking the necessary precautions but instead should encourage us to continue to do so in order to keep Sarawak as a green zone for the safety of our family and love ones.
That is why I encourage all including the hawkers to continue to abide by the precautions set by the Ministry of Health and not take lightly the spread of the disease. We all have a collective responsibility to help prevent another surge or a possibility of a second wave in our city.
