A group of protesters outside Parliament today demanded that the perpetrators of Teoh Beng Hock homicide be brought to justice after 5 years since the fateful incident.
Following the court’s verdict that ruled out suicide in the incident, the late Teoh’s sister Lee Lan demanded today that the government empower the police to act against four Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) officers who were connected to the case.
The four, Mohd Anuar Ismail, Hishamuddin Hashim, Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus and Arman Alies were the investigators who had questioned Teoh before he was found lying dead on the rooftop of the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009.
Lee Lan who led the protest today sent a memorandum to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim on behalf of the Prime Minister asking for action to be taken against those responsible for Teoh’s death after the Court of Appeal ruled in September that “a person or persons were responsible for Teoh’s death”.
Shahidan Kassim offered to give “donations” (derma) to the family of the late Teoh when he received the memorandum and expressed sympathy for their plight. Lee Lan politely refused the offer while expressing her gratitude for the gesture of concern for the family.
“The minister promised us that he would send our message to the Prime Minister and we hope that instead of charity – Beng Hock’s murderers are punished.” she said.
Lee Lan and her mother also expressed their frustrations to MCA Deputy President Wee Ka Siong, asking him “why someone who was sent to the MACC as a witness for investigations was returned to them as a corpse”.
Wee replied saying that the MCA had always been supportive of the family in wanting the murderers be brought to justice.
The deceased’s family also expressed disappointment that the alleged perpetrators of his death had been promoted. Mohd Anuar Ismail has now been promoted to Grade 48 from Grade 44.
“It was very unreasonable, ridiculous and unacceptable. In any country, any officer suspected of being involved in a murder case would not be promoted,” said Lee Lan.
The promotion was revealed on Monday when Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low replied to a parliamentary question by Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching about the matter.
Teo had demanded that the police and MACC respond to the judgement of the Court of Appeal.
“The unwillingness to take action against the trio is either a silent protest against the findings of the three learned Court of Appeal judges, or a cover up.
“Whichever the case, it will for sure render our judiciary system a mockery. Have we become a nation where there are wrongful acts but no wrongdoers?” said Teo. -The Rocket
