By Yeo Bee Yin, State Assemblywoman for Damansara Utama
Since the launch of the DAP Selangor donation drive on 28 December 2014, we’ve received very good response from the general public. People from all walks of life came to our donation centres to donate.
We have received 387 packs of 10kg rice, 2,132 cartons of mineral water, 5,421 packs of biscuits, 6,716 canned food, 1,171 diapers and many other supplies such as instant noodle, sanitary pads, candles, toiletries, clothing etc.
Nevertheless, we see that there is more need at the affected areas. Therefore, in solidarity with fellow Malaysians who are facing hardship in dealing with the aftermath of the flood, we’ll extend our flood relief donation and reopen 3 collection centres at the address below this coming weekend (3/1 – 4/1) to collect more goods: –
1. DAP Selangor HQ
Address: No. 24, Jln 20/9, Paramount Garden, 46300 Petaling Jaya.
Time: 10.30am-4pm
2. Dewan Orang Ramai Kg Baru Balakong
Address: Jalan Kb 2/12a, Kampung Baru Balakong, 43200, Seri Kembangan
Time: 8am-10pm
3. Pusat Khidmat Kinrara
Address: 5-2 Jalan Cenuk 2, Off Bt10 Jalan Puchong.
Time: 10am-5pm
We urge all Selangorians to come to the collection centres to contribute either in cash/cheque or in kind to help the flood victims to go through such a difficult time. Alternatively, they can direct bank-in online to “Tabung Dana Kecemasan” (Ambank 8881002244649).
For those who are doing donation in kind, please note that we do not collect clothing anymore. Neither are we collecting toys or electrical appliances at the moment.
The items we need include: water, dry food such as biscuits and canned food, rice, blankets, diapers, sarong, new underwear, toiletries, batteries and basic medicine – inhalers, panadols, charcoal pills, calamine, diarrhoea meds, plasters, ORS and Dettol.
In addition, we hope that donors will donate in bulk or by box with proper labelling to ease the work at the relief centres. For example, instead of assorted items in loose, we hope the donor can use the same amount of money to buy the same item, pack them in box, seal them tight and do proper labelling. Proper labelling is especially important for medicines.
DAP Selangor will continue to stand with the flood victims and do our utmost best to help alleviate their hardship. And we call on all Selangorians to stand together with the flood victims as one family and contribute generously.
