Selangor has continued to ace the investment scorecard when it received the highest investment amount in the country at RM 5.2 billion for the first six months in 2011. In this period, Selangor received RM 3.1 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) and local investments of RM 2.1 billion.
A total of 135 projects were approved from January to June this year and 9847 jobs were created. The number of projects approved is the highest in the country. Of the 135 projects, 89 are new investments while the remaining 45 are for expansion. Commenting on this, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim says that this shows that a high level of confidence from local and foreign investors toward the state government.
“The Selangor state government has worked hard to convince the investors and we are happy with this performance so far,” he said.
According to sector breakdown, the electronics sector recorded investment of RM 1.3 billion from 18 projects. RM 110 million is from local investors while FDI accounts for RM 1.149 billion. Japan is the biggest investor in Selangor with 13 projects involving investments amounting to RM 1.136 billion, followed by South Korea with RM 652 million (three projects) and Singapore RM 510 million (eight projects). -The Rocket
