May 13 rhetoric not constructive, but hypocritical

Hong Pin - MahdzirMCA Youth leader Chong Sin Woon’s attack on Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, labelling the latter as treating the May 13 as a “taboo issue”, was regarded as hypocritical rhetoric by the DAP leaders.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s May 13 reminder to the public at a Ramadhan event on 4 July had invited criticism by opposition leaders including Lim Kit Siang who viewed the speech made as a threat against non-Muslims, as it blamed the attack on Islam as being the cause for rampant racial and religious tensions. BN’s Chinese component MCA had then defended the Deputy Prime Minister’s statements, dismissing his message as a mere reminder to prevent the May 13 violence from reoccurring. Chong Sin Woon, in addressing the issue had asked Lim Kit Siang to be “constructive in his politics”. Lim Kit Siang is always the first one to shiver when May 13 is discussed, he also said.

Responding to this, DAPSY National Secretary Tan Hong Pin and DAPSY Member Mahdzir Ibrahim reminded the Youth Leader that the 13 May issue when brought up by UMNO and BN leaders, has always insinuated the Gelang Patah MP as being the man responsible for the incident.

Calling the accusations against Lim Kit Siang “creative”, the DAPSY representatives also said that there have been movies made that depicted the Gelang Patah leader urinating at a flag pole outside the then Selangor Menteri Besar residence, whereas Lim was never anywhere near the MB’s residence at that time.  The government propaganda movie was set during the May 13 riots.

“The comments that have been made on the May 13 issue far from being constructive, are a propaganda tool to divide and rule by instilling suspicion and fear amongst races”

“If Sin Woon wants to practise constructive politics as he preaches, then we challenge him and the Barisan Nasional Youth to set up a Royal Commission to investigate the May 13 incident and clear the tarnished names of those defamed as culprits,” they added.

DAPSY had also asked MCA to stop provocative statements from groups like ISMA and PERKASA, if it was serious in promoting racial unity.

“The failure to act as stated would mean that the MCA Youth are not constructive, but ‘hypocri-tive’,” said the DAPSY. -TheRocket
