PH Secretariat Council
Media Statement
6th April 2020
The Pakatan Harapan Secretariat Council hopes to receive RM22.2 million in funding from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to all parliamentary constituencies, where 1,000 basic food packages will be provided to families in need. This is a reasonable step and will definitely help those who are most affected during this Movement Control Order.
However, it has come to our attention that the method of allocating these basic food packages is not equal for all states. In Johor, for example, some Pakatan Harapan MPs said they were not contacted by the Social Welfare Department or in other instances were informed that the food packages would be passed through the State Security Council or another body.
The Pakatan Secretariat Council emphasizes that the Covid-19 outbreak is not a time to play politics and wrestle with bureaucratic corruption. In fact, it’s time to combine all our energy to fight this pandemic and help those who are affected.
Therefore, we urge JKM to include Pakatan Harapan MPs in the process of distributing these food packages. Legitimate Members of Parliament are elected and have the mandate to represent the people of their constituencies and certainly have the right to actively participate in reducing their burden.
Let us put aside our political differences and work together for the sake of the people and the country.
