PETALING JAYA – True to the DAP and Pakatan Rakyat’s continuous efforts in empowering Malaysian women and mothers, The State Assemblyman for Kampung Tunku, Lau Weng San, organised a breastfeeding awareness campaign to keep the society alert about the matter.
The event, happening on 22 December, was held with an active collaboration with Malaysia Natural Breastfeeding and Natural Parenting Association (MBNPA) here, at SS2 Mall.
Visitors from all over the Klang Valley participated in the 6-hour event, which highlighted the visitors on the aspects, roles and importance of breastfeeding in parenting. The campaign also solidified support for the practice of breastfeeding, alongside educating the crowd on children and family-related issues. The breastfeeding culture has been detected as increasingly “low” in Malaysia.
While females are making up half of the country’s population, working mothers in Malaysia are dealing with an unimpressive lack of nursing and breastfeeding facilities in their workplaces.
Most of them are lead to quit their jobs to tend to their families, something that has raised the cries demanding better prospects for women in the nation’s workforce. – The Rocket
