KUALA LUMPUR, 5 March: Penang will contribute RM30,000 to the families of the late police commando Inspector Zulkifli Mamat and Korporal Sabaruddin Daud who were killed in early attacks in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu on Friday.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today that the donation would be made as a mark of solidarity and respect for the slain policemen despite none originating from Penang.
Speaking at the launch of the Penang Paradigm 10 year development plan in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre today, Lim said that the suggestion to give similar donations to other fallen policemen in the Sabah incursion will be brought before the EXCO meeting in Penang tomorrow.
Penang plans to give the RM30,000 donation to all the families of the eight policemen who have been killed in the three-week old Sabah conflict as of yesterday.
The other policemen who were killed were ASP Micheal Padel, 36, Sergeant Baharin Hamid, 49, Sergeant Abdul Aziz Sakirun, 48, and Corporal Salam Togiran, 42 Supt Ibrahim Lebar, 52, and Lance Corporal Mohd Azrul Tukiran, 27.
Participants at the event observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect for the fallen warriors who have lost their lives in protecting the country.
Meanwhile, Lim also urged the government to convey a special sitting of Parliament as soon as possible to probe the intrusion into Lahad Datu’s borders as it is a matter of grave national importance.
Lim said that Prime Minister Najib Razak should clarify in Parliament the actual facts behind the Sabah incursion, pointing out that Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had given conflicting reports on the matter in the mainstream media.
Yesterday, the Pakatan Rakyat leadership had also called for a special sitting of Parliament to be held to discuss the armed conflict in Lahad Datu to produce a clearer picture of the actual situation in Sabah. -The Rocket
