I challenge the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to issue a notice to UMNO and declare its elections last Saturday was illegitimate due to numerous issues raised such as missing ballot papers, confused delegates and rejection of recounting. Thus, UMNO fresh elections must be called.
Prior to this, the ROS claimed that there was election fraud in the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections and ordered for re-elections. Despite the DAP had given its full cooperation and submitted explanations to the ROS, the ROS failed to give reasonable reason for persisting fresh elections from beginning to end.
In order to avoid the needless de-registration, the DAP held its re-elections on September 29, 2013. Apart from the rise and fall of individual votes, the results were not deviated much with the original polls last December in which the same CEC members were re-elected. This showed that the allegation made by the ROS was totally baseless and the ROS was merely an agent to the Barisan Government who aimed to attack and harass the DAP.
In the UMNO elections last Saturday, UMNO Executive Secretary, Datuk Abd Rauf Yusof pointed out that, out of 191 divisions, there were 50 divisions had technical problems and thus prolonged the counting process. UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor also admitted that there were not more than 10% divisions had technical glitches in the elections.
As reported, Youth Wing in Merbok and Women’s Wing in Petaling Jaya Selatan had received more ballot papers than the legitimate number of delegates; 6 branches of Youth Wing in Seremban were qualified for voting though they were revoked months ago; and voting for Women’s Wing in Baling and Puteri in Sabak Bernam was postponed due to missing ballot papers. Meanwhile, the official results were not released more than 24 hours after the voting was done on Saturday.
Obviously, there were more blatant issues raised in the UMNO elections compare to the DAP elections last December. The question is, will the ROS take action against UMNO and call for fresh elections? If no, it shows that the ROS is just an UMNO’s puppet for practising double standards towards the DAP and no longer professional, impartial and independent.
