Sodomy 2: Anwar hopes to be freed on Tuesday

_UFI0041Anwar Ibrahim told supporters that he prayed to be freed from his charges come this Tuesday, outside the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya today. The crowd of over a hundred people defied rain and shine to show their solidarity with the Reformasi leader who is under trial with the hope to overturn his Sodomy 2 charge.

“The prosecution has delivered some of their points although that has already been proven as lies (fitnah)”

“But it is ok, we’ll be patient.”

“It is Solat Jumaat (Friday prayers) now, so we will be going to the mosque for prayers.”

“On Monday,  court proceedings will resume and end before noon.”

“All this will end on Tuesday.’Insha Allah’ and pray that I would be freed on Tuesday,” said Anwar trying to be hopeful in front of his supporters.

The prosecution led by Shafee Abdullah today attempted to prove that Saiful Bukhari was persuaded into being sodomized because Anwar was not an ordinary appelant, “as he is charismatic and capable of influencing a young boy.”

He told the court that on the day of the incident, Anwar had asked Saiful, “Can i f**k you?”. Saiful said that he refused, causing Anwar to get angry. It was after this they they went into the master bedroom, where the act was committed  , Shafee said.

The prosecution said that Anwar and Saiful had a cordial relationship; that after the alleged sex, they had currypuffs and Nescafe 3-in-1 instant coffee, over which Anwar had advised Saiful not to ignore his prayers.

Shafee also addressed the defence’s point that KY jelly lubricant was not found on the carpet in the unit where the incident was said to have happened. Shafee said that the carpet was found in another unit and that he found this ‘ironic’.

Anwar’s defence had pointed out on Monday that Saiful had brought the KY jelly himself, poking holes in Saiful’s credibility as he claimed to have been forcefully sodomised.

Shafee also defended the samples which the defence team had said was compromised, claiming that they were not tampered by the Investigating Officer (IO) Jude Pereira, citing law cases to prove that the samples could be accepted despite being opened by the the IO.

“Allegations against the IO (Jude) are a serious travesty of justice,” he  said, adding that IO had “nothing to gain” from tampering with the samples.

Proceedings ended around 12.15 pm today, the Prosecution’s  submissions will continue on Monday for half a day. -The Rocket
