I have read and re-read Datuk Wee Ka Siong’s statement on MCA’s stand if UMNO were to support the implementation of hudud as reported in Malaysiakini.
Datuk Wee was reported on the BN Backbenchers Web portal as saying “I said, if that happened, we will discuss our position, not that we will leave BN..”.
He claimed that Malaysiakini twisted his statement. The news portal had earlier reported his comments as “If Umno votes in favour of the hudud Bill expected to be tabled by Kelantan, MCA and other component parties in BN, made up of non-Muslims, might review their position in the coalition.”
I am extremely confused, and perhaps Datuk Wee will be kind enough to enlighten me. How is “we will discuss our position” substantially different from the allegedly twisted “MCA might review their position” in BN?
The question to ask then is, who is twisting and turning? Is it Malaysiakini or Datuk Wee?
Was it because Datuk Wee came under attack from his coalition partners and Ministers like Khairy Jamaluddin that he tried to worm his way out of his conundrum, backtracking from his “heroic” position by conveniently blaming Malaysiakini?
What is there to “discuss” if not to “review” MCA’s position in BN?
Perhaps for the record, can Datuk Wee please clarify MCA’s position clearly, will MCA review it’s position in BN, if UMNO supports hudud in Parliament? Or will MCA leaders timidly accept UMNO’s position so as to keep their Ministership in Government?
What is however exposed in this incident is that when UMNO raises it’s proverbial fist, MCA will cower and submit to protect its interests in the coalition. It is hence quite clear that even if UMNO supports the implemention of hudud, MCA will just remain a loyal servant to its master.
