Kit Siang will not stand in Johor Jaya, announces 27-year-old candidate Liow Cai Tung

JOHOR JAYA, 2 APRIL: DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang has set the record straight that he would not be vying for a state seat in Johor in the 2013 election. Lim said such rumours were misleading and baseless, saying that his primary mission was to help propel a “political tsunami” in Johor for Pakatan Rakyat.

Lim said he had never intended to stand for any state seats in Johor, including Johor Jaya, as DAP has decided on a suitable candidate for the seat. The candidate is Liow Cai Tung, DAPSY Executive Council member and DAPSY Assistant Publicity Secretary.

The 27 year-old product manager is a local girl who was born and bred in Johor Bahru and who has been active in the party for the past few years.

“7227” partnership symbolises DAP’s strength and vigour

“Liow is 27 years old and I am 72 years old, but our “7227” partnership symbolises the real strength and vigour of the DAP,” Lim said.

The DAP veteran said that the party believed in uniting the wisdom and experience of its older members with the enthusiasm and energy of all age groups. This synergy would assist the party in its cause to bring justice, freedom and prosperity for all Malaysians.

Lim, who is MP for Ipoh Timur, urged all quarters within Pakatan Rakyat to refrain from making public comments on the ongoing seats negotiations, adding that the PR leadership would make the final decision. He stressed that Malaysians should not be deflected from the goal of defeatingBN and ending its 56 years of corrupt rule.

I hope that Pakatan Rakyat will be able to win the 13th general election with a strong and healthy majority by winning 125 parliamentary seats which will be distributed evenly among the three PR parties – PKR with 45 and DAP and PAS with 40 parliamentary seats each,” Lim said.

For Johor, an even distribution of the 26 Parliamentary seats among the three parties in PR would mean each party would be contesting in eight or nine seats each.

In the 2008 election, DAP contested in six parliamentary seats, namely Kulai, Kluang, Bakri, Labis, Segamat and Tanjong Piai. In this year’s election, DAP will also contest in Gelang Patah, with Lim Kit Siang as its candidate.

DAP contested in 12 State Assembly seats in the 2008 election. For this election, Lim said DAP proposes to contest in 15 State Assembly seats. -The Rocket

  1. I’m confused, in the first para it’s stated – “DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang has set the record straight that he would not be vying for a state seat in Johor in the 2013 election.”

But in a following para, it’s stated – “In this year’s election, DAP will also contest in Gelang Patah, with Lim Kit Siang as its candidate.”

    So which is it?

  2. Lim Kit Siang is standing as a Parliamentary candidate in Gelang Patah, he has declined to stand for the Johor state assembly. Liow Cai Tung will be standing in Johor Jaya for the state assembly seat.
